We were out of Letaba camp by 9am for the drive south to Lower Sabie. It took us about five hours, but since it was through the park it wasn’t any different from a normal game drive. Once we were south of Tshokwane, we started to see lots and lots of animals. These lovely lionesses were right off the main road and there was only one other car sharing the sighting. The closer we got to Lower Sabie, the more animals we saw. Along the way, we saw another lioness, a white rhino, and a warthog that was happy to have his picture taken.
After a quick setup, we went out for an afternoon drive. About a mile from the camp, we spotted our first leopard! It just came strolling right out into the road to say hi. It was our first omen that moving had been a very good idea.
That afternoon we also saw a giraffe, an elephant, a pride of lions under a tree and another leopard. When we got back to camp we were greeted by a rock monitor in our campsite. That evening we saw yet another scorpion. This was our first trip seeing scorpions in Kruger and we literally saw them in every area we went!
The next day we were up and out the gate when it opened for a spectacular day of sightings. As promised, I’ll show you the birds!
We also had many animal sightings that day. I saw my first Nyala in Kruger and it even posed for me. There were also more lions, a baby hippo and mother, and then more lions, elephants, and another leopard. What a day!
Sadly, the next day we had to leave and drive home, but not before another leopard bid us goodbye on the way out. We also ran into a wicked windstorm on the way home. I told you, we always see crazy stuff on the road!
This was the quietest trip to Kruger that we’ve ever had, and it was really nice. We have cemented the notion that we will not stray too far from Lower Sabie again. All of Kruger is beautiful, but we really do enjoy the lower part of the park the most. The next trip is Namibia! Coming soon…
Fantastic pictures, what a trip! The elephant eating and the herd of elephants, the leopard photo and the one of the road are my favorite. I am enjoying the virtual journey.
