Wondering where the lions are…

Ok, so I’m going out of order here. My next blog post was going to be about lockdown in South Africa and all of things we have been doing to keep from going insane. It will now be my next blog post. For now, all you need to know is that we have been stuck in the house for 13 weeks. SA went to lockdown level 3 on Monday, June 2nd. On Tuesday, June 3rd, the game parks opened up for day visitors only, so we had to go!

Dinokeng game reserve is about an hour’s drive from our house, so we left in the morning for a full day out. We started seeing animals as soon as we passed through the gate. There were impala everywhere. Here’s a sample of some of our sightings.

Unfortunately, we did not see any predators on this trip. In the past, we have seen lion and rhino in Dinokeng, but not on this trip. We will have to try again another time. We did see many animals though, and I got a couple pictures of a few of them. The day was spent enjoying nature and just being out of the house. After a picnic lunch, we carried on to the 4×4 part of the park and had fun exploring new places.

The end of the day came too quickly for us and before we knew it we had to make our way toward the gate to head for home.

It won’t be long until we are out on another adventure, maybe even this weekend. For now we can only travel within our province, but there is plenty to do. I will get our lockdown shenanigans posted soon. We hope everyone is keeping well and staying safe out there!
