My son, Cameron, graduated this year. He has decided to stay here in South Africa and attend university while living at home. A vehicle was in order, so the boy now has a truck (as we Americans call it).

If you know anything about the men in my house, you will know they started working on it the minute it was in the garage. It was quickly altered to keep up with the other overland vehicles. This all happened during lockdown and with nothing else to do, the guys were happy to have a project.

There was a “trunk” inside the back cargo area that was filled with a 60 liter water tank. A tap was installed on the bumper for it.

Then they built a cargo box to fit inside the back to hold the fridge and four ammo boxes. Ammo boxes are storage boxes here. We use them mostly for food and clothes.

After about a week of work, it was done. There are shelves built on the sides for additional storage and plugs for lights and accessories built into the frame next to the fridge. Unfortunately, he had to wait six weeks to go camping and try it out. Since then, it’s been tested on three trips and works great!

More coming very soon! Next up is camping on the KZN coast north of Durban.
