Back in May, we decided to take advantage of the weak Rand and buy a caravan. I’ve always wanted a camper and this one can go anywhere the truck can go. The process of choosing this one took months of research and we actually tried out several different kinds and types over long weekends. Ultimately, we wanted something that was fully off-road and had the comforts of home without being ridiculous. Of course, it had to have a kitchen. This one ticked all the boxes and we got lucky with buying it. The guy who owned it previously never really used it because his wife didn’t like it. Apparently there were other things she didn’t like too, because he had to get rid of it quickly due to a divorce. We were happy to relieve him of it.
After spending an entire weekend going through everything and discovering that we really could take this thing anywhere, I planned a trip for the next weekend. Off to the Drakensberg mountains we went! We decided to stay in a campground close to the Sani Pass called Silverstreams. The campground is great and they allow dogs.
The first day we went horseback riding. The second day we drove through the Sani Pass into Lesotho, a neighbouring country. The third day it rained and we were thankful for the walls. Of course, we had to try out the kitchen. A few of the delicious meals were breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, chicken curry, and stuffed pork chops. I did not manage to take any pictures of food – epic fail. Here are some pictures of the rest of the adventures though. If you aren’t familiar with Sani Pass, it’s probably best to google it. We did it in the rain and it was an adventure!
More soon! Playing catch up….
