Yep, it’s that time of the year again. Sigh. The shopping has been done and the preparations have been made. The fun starts on Tuesday. Funny enough, most of the school shopping was done on Amazon this year. Which means that all the good new cool school stuff will get here in September – after school has started. Reid is going to the US soon and will bring it back with him. Apparently that’s ok though. Could this mean that my kids are more focused on the upcoming academic year and getting their collective poop in a group instead of obsessing over the latest trends?? Wait, no, just kidding. They just realize if they want it, they have to wait. 😂
This year, in particular, is bittersweet. I now have a senior who is going to be fully consumed with the final year of the IB program. He will have little time for anything other than school, SAT’s, and applying to universities. At the end of the school year, he will graduate and leave me. Yeah, I know, there’s a whole bunch of other crap in between now and then. Right now, this is what matters to me in my selfish Mom brain. If you’re wondering how I’m going to deal with that, I’m just not. I’ve chosen to live in denial for a little while longer, especially since he’s turning 18 in exactly one month. Talk to me about it again maybe in April 2020. For now, we will move on….
We don’t have any particular traditions for back to school. Probably because every few years it’s a new school. So this year, I’m making whatever they want for dinner tomorrow night and then we will have a toast and hope for the best. Oh, and we will have banana pudding because, why not? I hope all of my friends and family have a good start to the school year. Hang in there. Before you know it, it will be Christmas and then we will have something else to worry about!
