So, a little time travel is in order. Sometime back in August, we escaped for two weeks to Lobotes campground in the Kwa-Zulu Natal province. After being literally stuck at home since March, we needed to get out of the house. We found a wonderful, small, campground in the middle of nowhere on a beach. Just what we needed during a pandemic. We took off for the coast with our only aspiration being to relax on a beach for a couple of weeks. Mission accomplished.

Curfew was from 9pm to 4am, so we were on the road at 4am. Our campsite was about 30 feet (or 10 meters) from the beach. Ocean view, ocean sounds, ocean smell. The only hiccup that we didn’t know about was that it was illegal to be on the beach – unless you were fishing. Hahahahaha! Glad I know how to fish. No one said I had to catch anything. In all seriousness, even the professionals weren’t catching anything so the pressure was off. We really just enjoyed being on the beach. So did the pampered poodle.

Pretty much every day involved a wet and tired, but happy doggo. Who knew a refrigerator was such a comfy place to dry off?

Sadly, I did not get any pictures of the food. I cooked and prepped for a week to prepare for two weeks of camping. Too much relaxing….. never a bad thing. This was our first trip with the roof top tent. It was a big hit and may change the way we camp, hint-hint. We played games and had a fire most nights. We were lucky enough to see a meteor shower a couple nights in a row as well. It really was the break we all needed.

After this trip, lockdown levels dropped fairly quickly and we haven’t slowed down since. Nothing like making up for lost time! Up next is the Richtersveld.
