I am so very far behind in keeping up with the blog. So, I’m going to play catch up as much as I can. I realize some of the blog posts are not going to be about food or journeys, but I also utilize this blog to keep in touch with family and friends. Now that we can’t travel to visit, this is more important than ever. So here it goes, a quick post on my lockdown project – as promised to the family!

While I was in Mozambique, I bought these pictures from a guy on the beach who was painting them. I thought they were awesome and would fit nicely into my African decorations. However, they were just canvas paintings. They presented quite the predicament because they were not evenly painted, they had very little margins were the paint stopped and usable canvas ended, and they weren’t straight. Ah, what a challenge!

The paintings are textured and would not do well in a traditional frame. I could have had them framed in a shadowbox style, but hey – lockdown…. and I was bored. I decided to make frames for them and used a couple different methods for building them. After exploring several ways to mount them, I decided to wrap and stretch the canvas. It was the right choice and they turned out beautifully.

There’s another post coming soon!

  1. At first I thought you were going to write that you did the paintings yourself. Great job with stretching the canvas and making your own frames…wish I could drop off a pug painting on canvas for you to frame. Love your creativity, photography and trips.
